China Plans Big AI and Computing Buildup in Boon for Local Firms
China aims to grow the country’s computing power by more than a third in less than three years, a move set to benefit local suppliers and boost technology self-reliance as US sanctions pressure domestic industry. The world’s second-largest economy is targeting more than 300 exaflops of computing capacity across its tech sector by 2025 from 220 this year, according to a joint statement from several agencies including the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. The goal marks Beijing’s latest attempt to construct digital infrastructure to spur a sluggish economy.

I mentioned “the rise of AI” in a recent email to investors, one of them sent me an interesting reply: “The ‘rise of AI’ is a bit of a misnomer.” What that investor, Rudina Seseri, a managing partner at Glasswing Ventures, means to say is that sophisticated technologies like AI and deep learning have been around for a long time now, and all this hype around AI is ignoring the simple fact that they have been in development for decades. “We saw the earliest enterprise adoption in 2010,” she pointed out.

5G-korridor längs riksväg 40 öppnar för självkörande fordon
Med stöd från EU kommer Telia och Ericsson skapa 150 kilometer 5G-försedda transportkorridorer längs utvalda sträckor i Göteborg och Stockholm. Infrastrukturen är ämnad att stödja utvecklingen av smarta och hållbara transportlösningar. Fullskaliga tester mellan olika logistikhubbar ska kunna starta andra kvartalet 2024.

Sverige har som mål att ta täten i utvecklingen kring sjätte generationens trådlösa system. Därför satsar regeringen nästa år 65 miljoner kronor på forskning och innovation inom 6G. Vetenskapsrådet erhåller 15 miljoner och Vinnova 50 miljoner.

Northstar-programmet vill accelerera användningen av 5G i industrin, med särskilt fokus på smart och hållbar transport. LTU ansluter sin befintliga 5G-testbädd mot Northstarnätet som bjuder på nya förmågor positionering, network slicing och edge computing.

According to a new report by the Financial Times, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman is looking to use Ive’s design firm LoveFrom to develop OpenAI’s first consumer device, with the duo having discussed what such a product would look like during brainstorming sessions at Ive’s San Francisco studio.
